“tell” का इस्तेमाल
“Tell” के बाद किसी व्यक्ति का होना ज़रूरी है: “tell someone something”। “Say” के साथ ऐसा ज़रूरी नहीं: “say something (to someone)”। कुछ तय वाक्यांशों में “tell” ही लगता है: “tell the truth”, “tell a lie”, “tell a story”, “tell the time”।

“Tell” irregular है: “tell – told – told”। “telled” कोई रूप नहीं है।
एक और गलती जिससे बचें
ग़लत
She told that she was tired.
सही
She said that she was tired.
इस वाक्य में “tell” को सुनने वाले की ज़रूरत है: “She told me that she was tired”। यहाँ सुनने वाला नहीं है, इसलिए “say” लगाइए: “She said that she was tired”। “tell a story” जैसे कुछ भावों में सुनने वाले की ज़रूरत नहीं होती।
