“Stand” का मतलब है पैरों पर खड़ा होना या किसी जगह पर स्थित होना (“the castle stands on a hill”)। “Can’t stand” का मतलब है किसी चीज़ से सख़्त नफ़रत होना: “I can’t stand loud music.”

बस स्टॉप या दरवाज़े जैसी किसी जगह के लिए “at” लगता है; “on” फ़र्श या कुर्सी जैसी सतह के लिए है। हिंदी के “बस स्टॉप पर” का “पर” अक्सर सीधे “on” बन जाता है, यही इस गलती की वजह है।
