“be” का इस्तेमाल
“Be” अकेली ऐसी verb है जिसके past simple के दो रूप हैं: “I”, “he”, “she” और “it” के लिए “was”, और “you”, “we” और “they” के लिए “were”। “Have been” का मतलब “have visited” भी हो सकता है: “I have been to Rome” का अर्थ है कि आप रोम गए थे और वापस आ चुके हैं।

- be interested inमें रुचि होना
- I have always been interested in history.मुझे हमेशा से इतिहास में रुचि रही है।
- be on timeसमय पर होना
- The train was on time for once.चलो, इस बार तो ट्रेन समय पर आई।
सबसे आम गलती
ग़लत
They was late for the meeting.
सही
They were late for the meeting.
“you”, “we” और “they” के साथ “were” लगता है, और “I”, “he”, “she” और “it” के साथ “was”। इस वाक्य का subject “they” है, इसलिए “were” सही है।
एक और गलती जिससे बचें
ग़लत
I am here since Monday.
सही
I have been here since Monday.
“since” या “for” के साथ, जब कोई स्थिति अभी भी जारी हो, तो present simple नहीं बल्कि present perfect “have been” लगाइए। हिंदी में “मैं सोमवार से यहाँ हूँ” कहा जाता है, इसलिए उसका सीधा अनुवाद “I am here since Monday” बन जाता है।
